/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ Mark Strategy Guide - No Quickenings/Espers/Power-leveling Copyright 2006 by Rodney Tilgner Version 0.6 11/22/2006 \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ ----Introduction----- The goal of the guide is to help people who are trying to beat these encounters without quickenings, excessive leveling and without having to spend time trying to get OPed weapons like Gladius, Kotetsu, Burning Bow, Deathbringer, zodiac spear, ect... near the start At normal levels these hunts provide quite satisfying challenges which is something that has been missing from the recent Final Fantasy games and my biggest surprise with this game. Now if only they would add increased difficulty options... The reason this guide doesn't add any more challenge stipulations is two fold... 1) I got tired of seeing everyone tell people to get and use quickenings when they asked for help and 2) I enjoy playing with and using all the gameplay options that are available that aren't cheap(cheap things dilute the fun). I probably will get around to real challenges eventually but I like to play through normally first which is more or less what this guide is based on. Strategies are designed for when the hunts first become available(with some exceptions where I missed when they were first available). In the contents section you'll notice I blocked off hunts between different points in the story. This is the time frame that the strategies are based on. Obviously fighting them later will make it easier as you would have access to better equipment, magick, ect.. ...But why run away from them? You'll notice that I put my level at the start of each one and you may notice it takes a big jump between Marilith and Ixtab. This is because I'm playing two different games. The first is my first playthrough where I ended up being a bit higher from exploring and stuff. The second playthrough I'm doing specifically for this guide and trying to stay at a level more in-line with the normal. I've done my best to curtail that as you'll notice I don't level up too much after Ixtab. Right now I just beat Gilgamesh at 35 which I've been keeping it at with fireflys. We'll see how long that lasts ;) This is a strategy guide so I don't cover too much of the other aspects of hunts too much. Oh and another tip to enhance play, go into the "config" menu option and set the battle speed to the fastest setting and set it to active mode as well. Trust me ;) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Legal Info: ----------- This may not be reproduced under any circumstances except for personal, private use. Thanks -700A- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- Version: -100A- -------- Version 0.6 - Revamped many of the sections. Overhauled tables and finished hunts up to Carrot. Mark tables are near complete. Will most likely add more abilities that can be immune(or not) later. Priority now is on getting the basics of the rest of the hunts down and later take care of the finer points 11/22/06 Version 0.4 - Initial version. Hunts up to Marilith as well as preface sections added which will be fleshed out in further versions. 11/14/06 ---------------------- Overview of Abilities: -200A- ---------------------- An overview of some of the useful abilities for hunting. I shouldn't have to go over some such as most white and black magick since most people understand how and why to use them. magick power effects the strength and accuracy of spells. So if you find that cure spell draggin with the next upgrade down the road a ways consider equipping someone with mystic armor and a magick boosting weapon to increase its effectiveness instead of just giving everyone pointy sticks. =Status Spells= -200B- =============== These are very, very helpful though it may take more than a few tries to land effects. If a foe mainly uses physical attacks always try to blind it, if it casts deadly spells try to silence it or berserk it. Slow helps with everything and HP draining skills like poison, sap, ect.. can be great against high defense enemies or simply to supplement dps. Even Break can work against Marks. Use them, if you don't you are only making things harder on yourself. Here's a great example: The bomb king is an optional boss that can be quite hard. You can challenge him as soon you complete events at Raithwall. He spams Fira, can call minions to his aid and can use Renew to fully heal himself. To fight him at that point in the game one might think you would need quickenings however if you simply inflict silence on him he can no longer use Fira nor summon his minions. You just made it a hell of a lot easier. You can go further with the status by inflicting stuff like blind and slow. He can still cast renew silenced but to deal with that inflict him with Disease(such as with Nihopalaoa + remedy which I'll get to in a bit). What determines success rate at casting status effects on enemies is your mag power vs the enemies vitality. Magick resist/evade may also play a roll. Anything that modifies mag will obviously increase or decrease the rate such as faith, serenity, shell, ect... To make it much easier get the Nihopalaoa which you can buy fairly early from the clan merchant in muthra bazaar with a high enough rank. It does cost a bit of gil and someone needs to go deep into accessories but it's worth it. It reverses the effects of items so phoenix downs will kill and Eye drops will cause blind. The kicker is that they will never miss. So much easier. It does include Remedy lore licenses so you can turn remedies into status bombs to cripple foes. Frequently the cornerstone to victory Reverse + Stop: Stop freezes the duration of some ailments or buffs for example Reverse. So with stop you can keep Reverse on someone for a lot longer than the usual duration of Reverse. Stop seems to remove decoy so you can't abuse it like that and foes are less likely to attack someone stopped. I put this here rather than Reverse + Decoy because this is a lesser known detail. Sleep/Confuse(/Charm?) + magick/Techs: Magick attacks and some technicks such as horology and traveler do not wake up foes under sleep or confuse. A plus to this is that slept foes(or yourself) receive increased damage. Note about Disease: While under Disease a target's current HP is their max HP so if you have Disease on a foe it will appear as if it's always at 100% =Buff Spells= -200C- ============= Again like negative status effects on enemies, you are only making things more difficult if you don't use buff spells like protect and shell(which may or may not be what you want :p). This includes your heal over time like regen which like protect/shell is good to have on your tank. You can get them early and they are easy to gambit. Reflect is also quite handy to counter caster Marks, to reflect AOE spells back at a single Mark, or to get spells past a Mark's Reflect as a spell can only be reflected once. In the end the hardest part may be deciding which ones to use with your time and MP. Gambiting buffs is generally the way to go however if a buff is vital you may want to manually recast it before it runs out which will refresh the duration. Get the Spellbound Augment to increase the time buffs last In cases where an enemy is killing you too quickly it's often a good idea to turn off any buff gambits(sometimes even healing) inorder to make progress. =Technicks= -200D- =========== They are free but they can miss. Most of them are useful if you know how to use them though some seem to be only useful in an emergency. I'll cover these in some depth since they are the most ignored skills in FFXII. This is a bit bare now because I've yet to test a lot of them on marks. It'll fill out in later versions. -=Charge=- Run out of MP? Hit charge to bring some back. If it misses it'll reduce your mp to 0 so don't try to use it refill your entire bar. This is a must have skill for casters as it soon as you can buy it which I believe is after Barhiem passage. This is especially true if you plan on doing a pure No Quickening/Esper game and hence do not have the benefit of double/triple MP. I use it a lot from Cluckitrice on -=Horology=- Does damage to an area based on the first minutes digit in current game time(ie 09:1->8<-:56). Does low damage when the digit is between 0-4 but it does high damage when it is between 5-9. Damage ignores defense but can miss. Very powerful if used correctly early in the game. From what I've heard level also plays a role in deciding damage. Does not wake enemies -=Traveler=- Does damage based on number of steps from 0-999 and then resets. Also resets after you use it. Damage ignores defense -=1000 needles=- Always cause 1000 damage but has a chance to miss. Ranged -=Souleater=- A stronger than normal attack. I'm not sure if it ignores defense or not -=Numerology=- From the official guide by Bradygames(paraphrased): "Damage starts at 1 but doubles each hit, at 17 hits it will cause 65,536 damage. Of course it can miss and the chain resets each time it misses (it is a tec so weapon doesn't matter). 18th hit always misses but according to the guide you can use an option called "safety" which will nullify the damage to the target but has a 13% chance of causing 131,072 damage to surrounding enemies." I imagine the chance to miss increases each time till it misses. Bad news is most marks are immune...where's the fun in that? :( -=Gil Toss=- From what I understand, damage is based on party's HP total divided by the number of enemies in range. This can do some very, very nice damage early though you need the gil for it. Ignores defense. I saw this in a topic and I'll credit the writer as soon as his FAQ is posted so I can see who it was... -=Sight Unseeing=- I imagine it wouldn't work on Marks but I've yet to test it. For reference it should either put a mob at critical or kill it -=Revive=- Best use I can see is for backup chars that you neglected to level and you need to rez one of your main team without another option -=Infuse=- Could be used as an emergency heal if you have someone who has no other use for his MP but it is rather weak. -=Shear/Addle/Expose/Wither=- If they work they can help but they tend to miss a lot...they also wake slept foes. The other nice part about them is they stack multiple times -=Achilles=- Should make an enemy weak to another element however so far every mark I've tested it on has been immune... ----------------- Character Setups: -300A- ----------------- By progressing chars to fill certain roles you can make encounters vastly easier on yourself. There are a few main roles and then a number of mixed roles. In the end everyone will end up the exact same(with a little bit of difference from base stats) but if you are playing in such a way that limits LP gains or you simply aren't going out of your way to farm LP then planning out how to build up each char is important. Remember that the role(and equipment) the char performs will define them even if they all have overlapping licenses. Remember that you have 6 chars(unless you choose just to go with 3) so you don't have to fit everything into 3 chars so you can handle any situation. If you use all 6 you can switch in another healer, ranged attacker(s), or more melee depending on the situation and encounter. I like using everyone because I feel more familiar with them ala if I don't use some people I'm completely surprised to see them in scenes and it just throws off the experience. Of course using just 3 is fine even if you are trying to keep levels low for a challenge. Such as you can use the other 3 to farm items and LP as reserve chars get LP as well so you can progress your main 3 on the LB without them over leveling. It should be obvious that always using 3 will give you the quickest level gains. It really doesn't matter who you choose to be a tank or mage as everyone has pretty close stats. Some are more inclined at certain things than others which is pretty easy to tell from base stats. The reason I cover this is because I use some of these as terms. I'll often refer to a tank or healer and such. I only list a few. I may or may not add more in future revisions. Most of the license board stuff is just when starting out as to what to focus on. Eventually you'll fill up a lot of the same magick and techs which will make it easier to adjust your strategy as you go. =Tank= -300B- ====== This is a term used mostly in MMOs and so console gamers might not be familiar with it. A tank is a char that will take all the punishment from the enemy. They will have the highest damage reduction and block/evasion. The main job of this char is to keep the enemy focused on them and block/absorb all the damage. Obviously you want enemies to stay focused on them. In MMOs you tend to have a concept called aggro or threat level tables that each enemy has where the enemy will stay focused on whoever is highest and aggro is built through threat generating skills, damage, and healing in very defined amounts. Probably they will end up also as your melee damage dealer using the Haste + Berserk + Bravery combo(if you don't have all 3 which it seems the masses tend to do). However FFXII doesn't appear to have threat and aggro like that. Rather enemies have attack preferences more like gambits. Figuring them out will help you keep enemies focused on who you want. The most common preferences are Closest and Lowest HP. Just pay attention. Once you get Decoy you never have to worry about it again though. As far as licenses go you should focus on the lower portion of the Augments. Priorities on Shield Block, swiftness, +HP licenses, and last stand(which is surprisingly effective). The Item lore licenses are smart to pick up as items will probably heal more with the lower magick power. Spellbound is also highly recommended as your tank should be getting lots of protective buffs from the start. It is up to you if you want to branch into techniques or support/status magick and of course cure at the start. I don't like seeing MP go to waste so I really suggest picking up Green Magick 1 for Protect and Blind. Gambits as needed For equipment armor is simple. Heavy Armor which grants the best damage mitigation. Early on Light Armor also makes a fine choice. Hats are a little bit more open. Mystic armor hats seem to often grant higher magick resistance and against mobs that don't use magick a light armor hat for the HP boost is good. A mystic armor hat is also nice to boost magick if you wish to use cure spells or you need to use a non-elemental attack like Bio. In most cases, you'll want to equip a shield as well which would leave a one handed weapon. I like daggers myself and you can get one early that gives a bonus 34 evade (Main Gauche). Despite the solid evade measures add I wouldn't suggest them on a tank unless you want to rely on tecks in which case you're probably better off with the Main Gauche anyway(though honestly I just use it more or less around the time you can get and just upgrade it). Early on Poles can make a fine tanking weapon with their good evade bonus. Remember that a Tank's main job is to take and mitigate damage and dealing damage is secondary. However, some bosses have unevadable attacks or simply rely on magick attacks (unless berserked) so unless the shield has high magick evade you're often better just going for the best damage. A tank is still nice in those cases especially with decoy so you can keep those AoE magick attacks on one person away from everyone else. =Weapon Based Damage Dealer= -300C- ============================ Pretty simple, whack whack and whack some more. The key is knowing how weapon damage is calculated(refer to the weapons part of the equipment section). Unless you need them to also fill a support function you should berserk them to increase their speed, attack power and chance to combo. Don't forget appropriate buffs like Bravery/Protect/ect.. Anyway with the right setup weapons will have the best dps throughout the game(which is sad to me since it's so boring which is why I like to try to use other things). Pretty simple license wise, go for Battle lore, Adrenaline/Focus, swiftness and +HP augments first. Again picking up some techs or buff magick is recommended. They are a good choice to pick up Techniques with as magick users have more augments to buy. Expose would be good at least for themselves to use. Equipment is important. 2 handed weapons are generally much stronger though a 1 handed weapon with the right elemental property can cause far more damage. The important thing is to choose armor based on what it bases damage on. If strength based equip Heavy Armor and if mag based equip mystic armor. Various armor in all 3 schools have +speed. Contrary to popular belief, heavy armor does not lower your speed and in fact some heavy increases speed and also on the same note all light armor does not increase speed only some just like with all 3 armor classes. Light armor only always boosts HP. I imagine this got started because someone tried to equip a piece of heavy armor that didn't increase speed and had a piece of light armor on that did. =Healing Mage= -300D- ============== Primary role is obviously to keep the team alive and healthy with spells. Faith is a great buff for all Magick users. To supplement damage you can do a number of things, equip a long range weapon, go with damage magick at the cost of MP, or use shades of black at the chance of healing the enemy. I like to have my healer build MP through inquisitor with a ranged weapon Always gotta get the licenses for those healing and status removing skills first as well as charge. Then it's a bit difficult. Mages have a lot more to buy on the board than non-magick users as the bottom half of the augment board has a lot of helpful things in addition to the top magick focused part. Buy other magick, MP conservation and gain, swiftness and +HP licenses as you can or feel most needed. The licenses that improve parameters based on HP such as serenity can be quite nice just like last stand but don't worry about them early on. Picking up Quickenings even if you aren't using them can help in the MP department. The second quickening you get adds a second MP bar which doubles your MP and the third quickening adds a third bar ending in triple MP. Alternately if you get an Esper that requires multiple charges (ie multiple mp bars) then you will automatically get them on obtaining the license for it. For pure healers I like to equip a ranged weapon and have the Inquisitor augment(which unfortunately is at the bottom of the augment section though close to the right and cheap). This way the healer can gain MP while contributing when there isn't a need for recovery, support, ect.. magick. Otherwise a Rod with its MP and slight Mag boost is good as well as staves for the Mag boost. Measure + Shield can be helpful with the evasion if your Healer is constantly targeted and measures can also be used to cure confusion/sleep(by attacking since they're weak) or give free buffs. Mystic armor is the way to go armor-wise. =Damage Mage= -300E- ============= Primary role is to use spells to damage foes especially those the enemy is weak to for massive damage. A great way get more damage out of a mage against single foes that most hunts are is to use reflect on all allies and cast an AoE spell on them. For each reflection it will hit the enemy so with one cast you can hit an enemy 3 times or more if you have a guest and clan ally. Again Faith is great buff for all Magick users. License is similar to the Healing mage. Get your spell licenses and charge then go increase your MP efficiency, magick lore, swiftness and +HP. Again getting second and third quickenings or certain espers, even if you aren't using them, will double/triple your MP. You can dabble into status magick, healing magick or technicks if you wish. As far as technicks go Shades of Black can be used as a free spell, Shear lowers magick defense and Achilles is suppose to make an enemy weak to an element Equip to increase your spell damage as much as possible. Mystic Armor is the obvious choice though weapons aren't. There are weapons that increase a specific elements damage by a certain amount so you should try to equip a weapon like that where appropriate though I'd still choose a staff or rod that gives a much larger boost to Mag power. =Support Mage= -300F- ============== The primary role is the use of support magick in battle such as keeping important buffs up or inflicting status ailments as well as to remove them. Healing mages generally don't have the time or MP resources and Black mages MP could be put to better use as well though anyone can really fill this role and I tend to spread it around a little. They should also support damage and they are pretty flexible in that regard especially since support and status magick don't require much if any Mag pow(none for buffs or removal magick). Ranged weapons, magick, or technicks are all choices depending on armor/equipment. Since it's such a mix it is hard to say exactly what to focus on. Certainly buy the licenses for Support and Status inflicting/removing magick then the rest depends on whether you want to focus on the magick side more, physical or technick. Check the other char types for where to focus based no your choice. Equipment again depends on where you choice to focus between the primary role. What I liked was giving mine a bow and heavy armor or you can equip to boost magick if focusing on the magick side. If using technicks it doesn't matter a whole lot. Eventually everyone will have the lp to cover this role but early on when you don't have the lp to buy everything for everyone it's helpful. -=Parties=- -300G- Well there are probably more types of roles you can do but that's all for the first version at least. As I mentioned in the opening of this section is that you can mix and match to create different groups. For example a balanced team I like to use has a Tank, Support Mage and Healer Mage each mage with a ranged weapon. This allows me to only have one person up with the enemy for if it does any AoE attacks or to spread out if the enemy uses large area magick attacks. Also if one of my mages are targeted I can switch to them and run around with them to try to kite. If you face an enemy that just uses physical attacks but tends to bounce around target wise you can put in 3 melee with shields and the ability to blind and you can just watch them evade everything and beat it down with the occasional potion. You can also try a 3 mage party and try to put the enemy to sleep or immobilized. A slept enemy will not wake if it with magick so they can just beat it down especially with the reflect strategy I mentioned earlier. A tactic I like to use to switch people in and out to reserve MP. For example a boss might go crazy at critical and start doing insane damage where I need the MP to spam heal. I'll hold off on putting my main healer in for most of it and use my other chars to take care of maintaining buffs and debuffing the boss as well as handling the less difficult healing. Of course if you still get those quickenings/espers for the increased MP you probably won't need to do this but in a pure no quick/esper play it's very helpful. Just play around and try out different things :) ----- Tips: ----- =Knowing where and how to find Marks= -400A- ===================================== First of all remember that you have to talk to the client first after you accept a hunt from a Notice Board or Montblanc. When you talk to the client about the hunt pay attention to what they say especially AFTER you accept and the "Hunt Begins" message shows up on the screen. They will tell you the name of the area and possible spawn requirements. If you miss just talk to them again. Often they will tell you the exact name of the area with it highlighted in orange. Open up your area map by pressing "Select"(or select the right area using the World Map from the menu). If you look at the upper left you can see the name of the area and sub-area for example "Giza Plains/Nomad Village". You can use the D-pad to highlight other areas and see what each of their names are. Also if you know where an exit leads to you can jump to that area's map by pressing X when you highlight the blue arrow. =About Weapons= -400B- =============== As I mentioned when talking about weapon damage dealers, to maximize damage you should know what they use to calculate damage. I suggest you check out section 4 of Arthellinus's Power Walkthrough which is a lot of good down and dirty info on damage calculation, weapon attack speed, ect... Basically just remember that there is more to DPS with weapons than just it's attack power. The speed that a weapon attacks with often makes a much bigger difference in dps as well as the ability to combo more frequently. Ranged weapons I really like. They may be weaker but they often allow you to spread your team out and keep people from getting hit by AoE attacks which makes healing and status removal much easier and can often be the difference between spending much of your time recovering everyone and having that one person handle it or possibly rotate it. Aside from the defense ignoring part of guns, I really love ammo. What I love about it is that you can upgrade your weapon and still keep the same ammo and hence the same added effect or change ammo depending on the foe without having to drop down to a weaker weapon to get the effect. =Try your own Stuff= -400C- ==================== While I try to list more than one method I don't list every way nor will I ever. Some I mention in other parts such as where I discuss the Damage mage I mention the strategy of Sleep + Magick. It's likely that what I suggest may not fit your playing style and that is why I also try to list what Harmful Status effects work on each one, the stats and their Attacks. Be creative and think about what you are facing and you can figure out how to conquer the enemy. This is much more enjoyable than following guides and you may find yourself with the great urge to rush off and tell someone about the amazing battle you had and how >You< beat it. Especially when you find a way that does not resort to spending 2 hours leveling up or something. This is what the gameplay side of RPGs(and most games) is all about though rpgs have the wonderful feeling of exploration and discovery that is wasted by using walkthroughs step-by-step. =Explore= -400D- ========= Go ahead walk around town or explore new areas. Don't let the story confine you. Exploration and Discovery are important parts of the game. You can learn a lot of things from talking to people(such as don't use magick around elementals or what conditions are needed for them to appear), find sidequests or discover new areas where you might be able to buy better stuff. For example if you do some exploring and questing after Raithwall's tomb then you'll most likely complete the cactuar quest or chase of Deweg or hell even beat earth tyrant to give you access to mosphoran highwastes. You can find a merchant here where you can buy golden amulets, remedies and some other useful things. =Ignore Defense= -400E- ================ I mention this in many of my strategies but it works for all. When taking on marks at low level or when they hit critical they often have a high defense to where you aren't doing that much damage. The best thing to do is to use and abuse skills that ignore defense. Magick usually does, technicks like Horology, traveler, 1000 needles, ect.. do as well as Balance. For enemies with high defense it's easy to gambit with Foe HP = Critical which you get very early. ------------- Error Notice: -500A- ------------- When I first started testing for status immunities I went with the thought that if it missed that meant it could affect it otherwise it would always say immune first. But I was wrong. I have no idea what I was thinking. This mostly just affects the first 8 or so hunts which don't matter too much and if I talk about using something then I did use it. As far as filling in the blanks I'll do that in later versions. Primary goal for now is to finish up the marks. ---------------- Mark Strategies: -600A- ---------------- Abbreviations: HP-------------Hit Points MP----------Magick Points STR--------------Strength MAG----------Magick Power VIT--------------Vitality SPD-----------------Speed ATK----------Attack Power DEF---------------Defense MRES----Magick Resistance EVA-----------------Evade LP---------License Points CP------------Clan Points =============================================================================== ============================= Rogue Tomato =====================-600B-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 134 | 50 | 9 | 3 | 14 | 12 | 10 | 7 | 18 | 0 | 3 | 180 ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Normal | Normal | Normal | Normal | Weak | Normal | Normal | Normal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Pebble, Fire Stone, Potion ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Location --------------------------------- Exit out to the Eastersands and you should see it straight out on a cliff --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 1 Whack it and use a potion if needed. If you want to take it on solo right away you'll need a some stock of potions and it helps if you can upgrade your equipment. If you save your money and head to Nalbina you can find Magick like blind, protect, ect... and equipment that is much better than what Rabanastre currently has to offer. I actually wish I had done this. The biggest pain is the combos she tends to do. When I fought her at 3 she did several 3 and 4 hit combos. If you're lucky you'll do one or two of your own but probably not. Kill the wolves in the area and then kill the wolf right by her first. She does 20 per hit with default armor and attacks faster than you so try running away till your attack timer fills up and then attack. Pop potions or use cure as needed. Finish her off quickly as she'll summon wolves at critical. She can also poison with her attacks but poison isn't that big a deal. It took 10 potions for me solo at 3. With Penelo it's pretty easy. Again clear out the lesser wolves and then go at her and have Penelo use cure as needed. After beating it you should have a high enough clan rank that you can now buy Hi-Potions from the Clan Provisioner. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== =========================== Flowering Cactoid ==================-600D-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 755 | 525 | 10 | 10 | 38 | 12 | 15 | 12 | 6 | 40 | 2 | 300 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Normal | Normal | Normal | Absorb | Normal | Weak | Normal | Normal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Poison | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Disable Yes | ??? | Yes | Yes | ??? | Yes | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Berserk | Oil | Death | Stop | Sap ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Cactus Fruit, Earth Stone, Potion ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. As you can tell by the evade and HP it is also a much harder fight than Thextera. It can use 1000 Needles which will be an instant game over if you are alone although normally he only uses it once so I really recommend doing this when you have Penelo. If not you'll have to hope 1000 needles misses. I don't think blind works on that since it's a skill but it would be helpful otherwise. Also I've heard that you can run out of range before it gets it off but it came out near instantly for me. Might have to set the battle speed to the slowest. Anyway the best way to deal with him is with magick. Take it to him and he'll occasionally run away and try to cure or use a potion. You can prevent him from using those healing moves by staying engaged with him which can be hard as he'll run through other enemies and try to force you to fight them. You can also silence him with the mage masher to prevent cure...but he can still use potions. He only does 1000 needles at critical so if you get him down that far and he starts running you could take him solo without him using it. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================= Wraith =======================-600E-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 5146 | 600 | 18 | 13 | 33 | 15 | 20 | 7 | 10 | 1 | 5 | 750 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Normal | Weak | Absorb | Normal | Normal | Weak | Normal | Normal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Poison | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Disable Yes | ??? | Immune | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Berserk | Oil | Death | Stop | Sap ??? | Immune | ??? | ??? | Immune | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Glass Jewel, Dark Magicite, Hi-Potion ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. This puts a countdown to death on a char. He usually starts by putting it on all chars. He can also inflict blind, poison and sleep and he hits fairly hard including the dark spell they both can do between 80-130 damage. You can start this hunt as soon as you return to Rabanastre after you escape from prison so you could either do this solo or wait a few scenes till recover your party members. Depending on how you fight it's not that different either way. If you really, really want to tackle this solo straight away the only way to kill it before doom gets you(unless you are lucky and it misses a ton or overlevel or something) is to spam Hi-Potions on it. You can buy them from the clan vendor at this point. Buy yeah, that's expensive. Let's just wait a few quick scenes in Rabanastre to get our team back. You can take care of Dark and Blind by silencing it with the Mage Masher. Unfortunately it can still use Doom. Then you can blind it and it's pretty much harmless...(Well there is always the chance it will manage to hit with Sleep Touch and Sleep you and then miss till the countdown kills when trying to solo it... *cough*) Anyway with it blind and silenced get it focused on someone with a shield and possibly gauntlets and it'll almost always miss or be blocked. You should be able to take it down before Doom starts to kill people even if you haven't really upgraded weapons and easily if you have. If you have a party of ranged you can immobilize it and then fire away. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== =============================== Cluckatrice ====================-600F-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 7509 | 563 | 19 | 17 | 34 | 14 | 25 | 5 | 8 | 3 | 6 | 830 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Normal | Normal | Normal | Weak | Normal | Absorb | Normal | Normal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Poison | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Disable Yes | ??? | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Berserk | Oil | Death | Stop | Sap ??? | Immune | ??? | ??? | Immune | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Small Feather, Wind Stone, Taurus Gem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Press "Select" to bring up the map and use the D-pad to find the area that is named "Gizas North Bank"(It's the one to the east). Now just go there and kill everything, exit the North Bank area and re-enter and it will have spawned. This can only be done during the Dry which isn't a problem if you do this when you first can. Later on it will periodically change from rainy to dry. You can talk to a seeq at the south exit that will tell you how close the weather is to changing(you can also see whether it's rainy or dry by looking out from the south exit). Some people say it changes hourly. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 8/9 After this hunt your clan rank will likely go up and unfortunately that will mean Hi-Potions get replaced by Greens. Oh dear lord this is certainly an elite mark when it becomes available. Cluckatrice itself is strong enough to make it very hard but then there are also 3 minions who have lots of health themselves. The big guy as you might guess can cause break to people where after 10 seconds they become petrified. You can buy gold needles at Migelos to counteract it. It can also cause slow and there isn't anything you can do about that right now. When not doing either of those things it will usually be running around fairly quickly trying to poke people for about 80 a pop. It can also use a skill called mucus which does 100+ at range but it can miss. The chicks don't do much besides attack and they only hit for about 30 but it adds up. Like most marks Cluckatrice can go on combo sprees at low health They are susceptible to about everything you can throw at them at this point. Unfortunately the Cluckatrice can use purify to remove them so it's really a toss up on using them on him. Blinding the chicks will help out big time as blind never wears off of them. Even though you can pick this up before gaining your party back solo is suicide. If you're not using gambits this will be a big stress and it's highly recommended you either slow down the pace or set it to wait(if trying at a normal or lower level). Right now there is no pretty way to do this. Bring lots of potions and yeah it takes a lot of auto-potioning but what else are you going to use all those potions for? I had over 50 of them just from picking them up along the way and of course some phoenix downs. If you don't like gambit potioning you can always do it manual but point and laugh at me but I don't have the dexterity to do that here... Dark is an excellent attack to use till the chicks are dead as it'll hit all in an area for 200-300 damage. The Assassins dagger and Oaken Pole are good choices for weapons. Scale armor + protect is great for reducing the constant damage and highly recommended. Your top priority whatever you go with is to blind the chicks at the start and then either use dark to nuke them or focus fire them down with melee. Keep protect up and rely on potions to heal. The chicks tend to attack the closest thing but Cluck tends to bounce between targets. I've heard people saying they've had success using Immobilize. I didn't however especially with the steep MP cost at this point and the fact that Cluckitrice can remove it. Basically the idea is to freeze either the big guy in place and lure the chicks off to kill or vice versa. Be prepared to recast it a lot since it wears off after not too long. --- If you are wondering what my LBs are like I have mostly gone into the necessary equips and magick. I didn't use any LP for augments till this fight and only got 2 gambits and potion lore 1. Just watch out for the combos it likes to do after you get it blind. If you primarily melee I'd suggest also slowing it. If you have a team of casters or ranged I suggest immobilizing it. Don't forget about Horology as well. It was doing between 300-600 damage depending on the time. I was real lucky in my first run where I was just testing out it's status immunities in that pretty much everything hit. But in subsequent runs it's been miss, miss, miss so it depends on your luck. Best thing to do is manually have everyone try to blind until it lands. At level 11 he's likely to One-Hit-KO with his stomp and otherwise take off half the HP with anything else, depending on Augments. He has a Spin move that will hit anyone close to him. Even more reason to fight at range. There is also a small damage reflection. He's susceptible to most Status though they are semi-pointless if you kite. If you try to tank it then cast Blind and Slow. If you find yourself doing little damage you can try Horology which ignore defense. Also two skeletons are lurking in the room with Rocktoise. Just take them out as you kite. So yeah, he's flying so you need ranged attacks, magick or technicks to hit him. He has some AoE attacks so you don't want to get bunched up too much. He has Gust(low damage), Aero(~300) and a flame breath (~400). So have his target face him away from everyone else. Equipping Windbreakers will halve any wind based damage. You can try inflicting status on him but I didn't have much success. In the time I tested them Vossler ended up taking it down to half health by himself with just me tossing some healing every now and then so that should say how easy this is. =============================================================================== -=Tanking Note and some tips=- -6TNO- I think this part of the game is where tanks shine the brightest. Buy someone the Main Gauche, get them the Golden Shield, the shield block licenses and gauntlets accessory and blind every mark you can and watch as everything struggles in vain to hit your tank. A couple ignore evade though(such as Marilith) so be prepared for those cases. Also believe it or not but I usually go with a low HP tank(pre-decoy) as most mobs in the game tend to focus on the lowest HP(later it seems to switch to defense, but you'll have decoy) but I also have a High HP one as well. There are several different ways to do this. Simply don't get your tank topped off and keep his current HP lower than others, get everyone else the +HP licenses or simply use the person who has the lowest natural HP. Call me crazy but it's worked well for me over two playthroughs, at least early on. As I said once you get decoy you can pretty much through that concept out of the water. Also your clan rank will jump up quite a bit when doing these hunts(assuming you've cleared everything else so far). Defeat two and you should be a Headhunter(IIRC) and you can buy the Nihopalaoa which reverses the effects of items and gives you a guarenteed way to inflicted harmful status(ie Eye drops = blind, Phoenix down = death, ect...). You can also get Reverse which you probably don't have enough MP to really use at this point though with some clever use of it you can use it to more easily make it past some gruesome situations(remember that it has an extremely short duration though you may be able to use some chrono tears if the enemy just attacks the nearest...) Down another 2 and your rank should be Ward of Justice which allows you to buy the Bubble spell. You can now pretend your tank is twice the level(or everyone though it's expensive to keep up like that at this point). By the time you wrap up the last 3 you should be able to buy Faith as well. Also I do realize that some of these can be done before completing raithwall however I missed at which point they first become available. I have nearly a save per mark so I'll eventually go back to wyvern lord to try a bit more. =============================================================================== =============================== Croakadile ======================-600J-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 19449 | 780 | 29 | 18 | 57 | 13 | 35 | 13 | 13 | 2 | 10 | 1440 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Weak | Half | Half | Half | Absorb | Half | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Yes | Immune | Yes | Yes | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | ??? | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | ??? | Immune | Immune | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing ??? | ??? | Immune | Immune | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | Misses | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Horn, Pointed Horn, Aries Gem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Easiest way is to warp to Dalmasca Westersands and exit out east and you should see him to the south. There needs to be a sandstorm. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 16/17 The most notable thing about this guy is his high HP and his ability to do a one time health restore. Other than that he's slow and he mostly attacks physically with the rare Fira/Thundara. He also has a flame breath which hits everyone in an arc in front of him and inflicts sap so don't clump up. He can also confuse with his attacks and casts immobilizga. The first priority is to blind it and get him focused on your meat shield. Once blind have someone slow it and reapply it when it wears off. If your tank has the Main Gauche, Golden Shield, Gauntlets, and Blocking augments you'll block nearly everything. Use Esuna to remove status effects. He's slow so ranged attacks can kite him around if they are targeted. He has pretty retarded pathing around obstacles. Remember that he only heals once. As long as you don't group everyone up so they all get blasted by his flame breath at once you shouldn't be able to lose. Have your tank use Hi-Potions at low health and heal as normal with cure/cura. Watch for when he targets someone else and immediately switch to that person and run away from him in circles, preferably around a rock or something. Enemies really don't seem to like Penelo so I used that to my advantage here. If you happened to run across a Hand-Bomb I don't suggest them since unlike the other ranged weapons they can be countered and he counters quite a bit What you may want do is have someone try to keep immobilize on it and just use ranged attacks. Just keep at it, it'll take awhile. This is an endurance fight --- Depending on the order you are doing these marks you should be a Headhunter now. You'll find Bansat from Clan Centurio there to help. Pay attention to what he says as he'll tell you when Gil Snapper is up. If you says that the mark isn't up just exit and reenter "Tracks of the Beast" until he does. If you have to exit out from reason after engaging and come back later I don't believe he will say. You'll have to exit/reenter until you get a very, very stormy atmosphere. After killing it you can meet them in Nomad Village when it's Dry. From what I can tell the weather won't start changing until you advance the story down to Jahara to the point where you pick up Larsa again. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 17 Remember Rocktoise? Yeah nearly the exact same thing only this one can cast some spells. Fix that by silencing it with either silence shot(gun ammo) or the silence spell. Immobilize seems to have an easier time landing or it could just be me also Bansat will sometimes immobilize it. Keep your buffs up and keep it silenced and you'll be fine. If you aren't kiting it then try to blind/slow it. He is easily tankable with a good setup(Main Gauche, Golden Shield, Heavy Armor, Blocking Augments and Gauntlets). If you have the Nihopalaoa you can insure you silence it right away by using an echo herb and blind it with an Eye drop. Or you can hit him with a bunch at once with a remedy. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ============================== White Mousse ====================-600N-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 69469 | 999 | 36 | 25 | 69 | 16 | 60 | 35 | 18 | 0 | 24 | 3420 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Weak | Half | Half | Half | Absorb | Half | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Yes | Yes | Immune | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Yes | Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Potion, Echo Herbs, Hi-Potion ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. From the save point(Central Waterway Control, second room in after entering) take the a west exit to No. 10 channel. Don't go totally by the mini-map. Use your eyes to see the stairways connecting the paths and make your way over and down. He spawns at the eastern lower part of the West Sluice Control which is the SW area. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 17 Being a flan it tends to spend most of it's time casting. It's main attack is Watera and it also uses toxify, slowga and flash. Other than that it has the normal flan attacks like slap. There are many strategies to beat this guy and depending on how you fight it could be the most difficult hunt up to this point or another easy one. A tip for clearing up to him is to just run through No. 10 Channel and use warp or warp motes to easily get rid of the malboros. If an elemental is in the area you can either reload or try to beat it. When you spawn White mousse I suggest pulling him up the starts to avoid getting the Lizard which is hidden in the upper corner. Strategy 1: This is the most common. Basically all you do is berserk him and blind him. This is a good strategy if you have a party of melee with shields. It can put a strain on your healing if you have more of a balanced team or mage heavy team as it bounces from target to target(unless you have advanced the story to where you have decoy). Berserk misses often as well as wears off so you'll have to be on your toes the entire time. At low level I found berserk to be much, much more troublesome as he hits just as hard physically as with magic. Strategy 2: This is the easiest way to do it. Just put him to sleep and use fire magick or technicks to kill it. If you have the Nihopalaoa you can easily do this with alarm clocks. If not I suggest getting it blind and also use reflect to survive until you can get sleep to hit. Belias also works well. If you are far enough along that you have Fira try reflecting it off your own party. It took about 15 alarm clocks and a handful of phoenix downs and hi-potions. I didn't really need to use hi-potions at all and in fact that lead to a couple deaths because I forgot to turn the auto-potion off the nihopalaoa user. Poor Penelo...(you'll notice a pattern with her >_>). Other than that a couple slaps and Fran went down. *cough* Anyway...this is the strategy I used to beat him at level 17 =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================ Orthros =======================-600O-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 87141 | 999 | 37 | 25 | 72 | 16 | 64 | 35 | 23 | 0 | 25 | 3600 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Weak | Half | Half | Half | Absorb | Half | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Yes | Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap ??? | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Phoenix Down, Caramel, Slime Oil ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Break - Inflicts petrify on target and nearby targets 10. Lunge - Physical attack with some range, instant startup 11. Phantasmal Gaze - Confuses ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Location --------------------------------- Garamsythe Waterway/Southern Sluiceway. It's the room to the right of the one where you find White Mousse. You do not have to mess with any of the water controls. You need a team of Ashe, Fran and Penelo for it to spawn but you can immediately switch them out afterwards. There is a handy save crystal at East Sluice Control which is the room just to the right --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 17 Another flan in the room just beside the white mousse. You need an all female party to spawn him in the empty room(guests don't matter) and then you can immediately switch whoever you want in. Attacks to watch out for are Darkra and Thundara(rare). He has an attack that can confuse as well so be prepared to remove that. He attacks physically much more than White Mousse and has an attack called Mythril Bubbles that will hit anything directly in front of it. Mythril Bubbles is a little weird in that if you run away while he is charging it up he'll soon stop moving and cancel it without using it. There are other moves from other creatures that you can do this with. This fight is easy after the Mousse. Buff everyone with reflect(or equip ruby rings) and blind him and he basically can't do anything to you thankfully the damage spells he uses damage him. A proper tank works really well here to block nearly everything that isn't reflected especially since he tends to focus on the nearest foe. Defense ignoring technicks are the way to go here. Abuse Horology and balance Just make sure you have some Hi-Potions and Phoenix downs and it'll be a bit of a long battle =============================================================================== =============================================================================== =============================== Marilith =======================-600P-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 54921 | 540 | 35 | 19 | 74 | 20 | 58 | 21 | 21 | 7 | 22 | 3510 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Absorb | Immune | Immune | Immune | Weak | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Yes | Immune | Yes | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap ??? | Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Fire Stone, Prime Tanned Hide, Fire Crystal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Go to the Westersands and go to "Shimmering Horizons" and exit to Zertinan Caverns by taking the SW exit. You'll be in "Invitation to Heresy" which is the right part of the Caverns. He appears in the SE part of the cave where there are usually a couple frogs walking around. You should notice in the back there is a ray of sunlight beaming down. That's where it spawns however you usually have to wait around a few minutes before it will come out. Just run around killing things in the meantime. Eventually it'll pop up when you walk all the way into the corner where the light is shining. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 17 He doesn't have too many tricks but he has speed and hits hard. He also combos high and often. He's also quite resistant to magick. Like with most of the others blind is very important to inflict from the start but it can take quite some attempts to get it to hit(unless you use Nihopalaoa + Eye drop/Remedy). In the meantime he'll be raping face and it could end up that you're just rezzing as fast as he kills people. Yes this is exactly like Nidhogg only even if you do blind him he can still attack often enough that he'll hit a good bit along with those nasty combos. Slow can help but you can also cast it for the entire encounter and watch it miss every time and unlike blind it will wear off but still it'll be a help. As far as tanking it goes he seems to ignore evade so you don't have to worry about going sword & board + gauntlets. This means even with blind it will be very healing intensive and MP management is very important and this also makes it perhaps the hardest mark to beat right after raithwall. I highly recommend you hold off till you pick up Larsa which you do by going to Jahara which is the next point in the story. His Hi-Potions and added dps are a huge boon. Not to mention that'll save you a lot of your own. Personally I got annihilated each time before I could even blind it or do much so here is what I had to add to it. What I had to do is use bubble. If you've taken down the previous hunts you should have a high enough rank to buy the spell from the clan vendor as well as faith and reverse. Before you engage buff everyone with bubble though after just keep it up on your tank. This will hopefully give you the HP cushion you need in order to inflict him with blind and get him under some control. Slow is recommended as well. Then just keep protect and bubble on the tank and faith on the healer if you have it since it'll provide a very nice boost to healing so you can get the most bang for the buck and cast time. Seriously. Again Larsa and his Hi-potions will make this 3x easier. It's an extremely good idea to have the +HP augments if you want to take on this guy at this point. A lot of Hi-Potions, charging, buffing, healing and phoenix downs sees him down at 17. May have not needed more than a couple phoenix downs but at critical it decided it REALLY didn't like Penelo =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================= Ixtab ========================-600Q-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 22562 | 999 | 31 | 21 | 49 | 13 | 39 | 11 | 11 | 2 | 12 | 1760 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Normal | Normal | Normal | Normal | Normal | Normal | Weak | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Yes | Yes | Immune | Immune | ??? | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | Immune | ??? | Immune | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing Immune | ??? | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Dark Crystal, Book of Orgain-Mille, Flame Shield ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. At critical he'll start using spells like Watera if he's not already silenced or berserked or something. This is a good fight to test out decoy on if you haven't already. It's just to the left of the area with a save crystal and on the way to Stilshrine --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Average Level: 29 Another easy mark though he has quite a few tricks up his sleave. As you can see by his skill list he can bombard someone with harmful status or spike them with damage. Have someone able to use esuna. At low health he can use the skill White Wind to become immune to harmful status and combined with his low health and overall magick resistance it's not worth it really to bother with them unless you find it necessary. If you have an all melee party keep a very close eye on his health and when it goes close to critical move at least one of them away so you don't get wiped out by balance or else just use your other 3 to finish it off I guess. Or kill him before he uses it. Don't bother too much with black magick and just beat him down. If you are at a very low level and without HP augments bubble would be a great idea at least for your tank to survive the spike damage. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================ Trickster ======================-600S-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 61321 | 999 | 37 | 20 | 77 | 25 | 70 | 25 | 27 | 8 | 25 | 3240 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Random | Random | Random | Random | Random | Random | Random | Random ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Yes | Yes | Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | ??? | Immune | Immune | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing Immune | ??? | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Chocobo Feather, Gysahl Greens, Hastega Mote ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Wears off after a time but can be reused 3. Paling - Self buff that makes the enemy immune to attacks except to non-elemental magick and one random element that changes each time it is hit with it. Uses at critical health and wears off after a time. Can be reused. 4. Choco-comet - High damage to all foes in attack range ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Location --------------------------------- The area to find it is Frozen brook 2 screens south of Bur-Omisace. This is like Gil Snapper. The first time you enter and it's there the guy from Clan Centurio will tell you. If you exit the area and come back he won't tell you when it's there again so you'll just have to exit and reenter till it's there. You will probably want to venture in some to check it out as it can be semi-invisible(you can still see it's outline) but it will run around all over the frozen bank and most likely run into you --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Average level 29 Ho ho ho, have you been fairly disappointed by the recent hunts? Well this one and Antlion should give you faith again. Coming up with ways to beat these hunts with No quickenings, story bought equipment, and as soon as they become available has been the toughest challenge thus far. Of course by advancing the story a bit till after the Stilshrine will make them much easier. For the first 80% or so he spends most of his time running around the area and will do hit and runs. He hits pretty damn hard. At around 35% he'll use White Wind and he'll also start to use Choco-comet. He'll stay and attack a bit more but will still run around some. At critical he'll use Paling and stay and fight. A trick I believe should work with White Wind/Paling is to reduce the battle speed to the slowest setting. Buff duration shouldn't be affected and he'll attack far less during them. Strategy 1 - Pre-Stilshrine No way around it. This guy hits like a truck right now. His charge attacks hit for around 1.5k. A bubble belt on the tank is recommended since you need bubble to take that abuse at this point or else just keep the guy from the clan up since he can take it about as well. He might well have more health and just as much defense as your tank at this point. Just whittle him down as you can and don't use elemental attacks or weapons. Ranged weapons like guns are great here. If you want to use a mage stick to Drain(or Bio if you are past Stilshrine). His attack power seems to lessen once he settles down to attack at low health. Now here's the easiest way to do this without quickenings. Gil Toss. But of course you need the gil for it and it needs to do enough damage. I'm not sure what it bases the amount off of but on each save file I try it on everyone always throws for the same amount. Just save and then go check how much it does. If it does roughly 6k+ then you should be able to KO the big bird if you time everyone right. Even it doesn't it can give you a nice head start to use the Drain strat. Basically get him down to nearly critical and before he uses paling queue up Gil Toss on all 3 people and turn off gambits. Boom. You do need good timing with it because you don't want there to be too much of a gap for him to use paling, if you're lucky he'll be in the middle of an attack when you throw money at him. Strategy 1b It is possible to beat him without using the gil but it ain't pretty(or with it if gil toss isn't tossing quite enough to instanta finish it but still does hefty enough damage to give you a good head start with paling). You may want to try the battle speed trick I mentioned to make it easier once he uses paling. It's also a very good idea to have faith buffed. Hopefully you have the bubble belt on your tank inorder for him to survive the beating during Paling. Use Cura instead of Curaga to heal everyone when he uses Choco-comet. With two mage types you should be able to. Then you have two ways to do this, one is to simply spam it with drain and the occasional healing mostly hoping drain recovers a good bit of the damage. This can get a bit messy(especially at this point in the game) but it is possible, you may have to dip into your reserve chars this way and use up some items The other is to focus on healing until you see the message that white wind has worn off and then spam it with sleep. Once slept you can finish it off with magick or wait till you see a message saying that paling wore off and finish it with attacks. I'm not sure if physical attacks with paling up will wake it. If so you may need to kill off the ally though it's highly likely he'll be dead by that point. Be aware that he can use either paling or white wind again. If you're wondering my equipment was all buyable from Bur-Omisace or worse as well as the clan merchant in the bazaar and everyone's level was 29. You can try sleep + magick before he uses white wind but it's doubtful that you'll be able to kill him in the time that he's slept at this point. I tried getting him close to Paling point and waiting for white wind to wear off but he immediately reused it as soon as the message came up that it had worn off. Strategy 2 - Post-Stilshrine Pretty much the exact same only easier due to improved equipment and such. You can use the same two methods only now you have access to Bio which should do more than Drain. Drain is still nice it can restore part of choco-comet's damage. -- Also if you've completed all the previous hunts and sold the loot you've gotten as rewards the Morbin Urn/Canopic Jar will appear in the Bazaar Item list upon selling the clay you get from the reward for trickster. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================= Antloin =======================-600T-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 106499 | 750 | 37 | 18 | 77 | 17 | 68 | 25 | 24 | 0 | 25 | 3750 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Absorb | Half | Weak | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing Immune | ??? | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Potion, Charger Barding, Cancer Gem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Also I'd like to shout out to Vicaris, I happened to run across his post that mentioned the warp and the respawns. I had thought I had tried warp on the mantis and I thought they were immune but thanks to coming across his post I realized I had only tried it on the bats. Let me just say that using gravity was just too luck driven >_> At first the hardest part about this guy is the fact that he has 5 little ones with him. And even with bubble and the armor you have they'll chew through your tank with all of them hitting on you. On the brightside the normal foes can be warped(such as with warp motes). For reference with the Shielded armor and bubble my two tanks have about 4500 HP and they get hit for ~450. You have two choices, first is to spam warp with everyone as soon as you get in there(make sure decoy is already set) preferably on different targets and hope everything gets takin out while you try to run away at the same time with the tank. The other is to have someone cast reverse on the tank(turn off healing!) until you get them all warped. Be careful where your non-tanks stand so they don't get hit by Flatten during this. After that have your tank pull Antlion up the tunnel some in case of respawns. For awhile it should go pretty good except for the fact that it hits hard and fast. It's recommended that your damage dealers have Gladius(or whatever the best wind elemental weapon is at your point in the game). I just put it on my tank, with bravery, haste and berserk. The others should be concentrating on healing and keeping it slowed as well as decoy active. You may want to use some reserve chars at this point for the buffing and lighter healing to conserver MP on your main healers. Faith can really help out Healing-to-MP efficiency. Everything should go fine till it gets to critical...as always. Make sure your healers have MP before that and hopefully the buffs on your tank will last. At critical it will enrage and it'll combo a lot, hit harder, and hit faster. If you have the MP to spam heal the berserker tank it'll go down with little fuss. If he dies just scramble what you can to finish it. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== =============================== Vorpal Bunny ====================-600U-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 20010 | 999 | 35 | 22 | 55 | 25 | 46 | 15 | 22 | 6 | 16 | 1440 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Weak | Absorb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Yes | Immune | Yes | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing Immune | ??? | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Drab Wool, Hi-Potion, Blood Wool ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. He doesn't seem to have any tricks, you have dispel to remove his buffs, and he hits pretty weak and even if he comboes you won't really notice since his attack animation is so slow. He can purify harmful status but he can't do anything about Disable, sleep or confuse. First time I fought him I was testing his immunities with Nihopalaoa + remedy and he ended up sitting there disabled for most of his health then I also had Penelo with Recurve Crossbow(stolen from Balloons in Stilshrine) + Stone Bolts and I put in a tank with a Sledgehammer for kicks. Though upon later tries he does tend to use White Wind fairly early. Seems to also be like Ring Wyrm in that he uses Restore once or he may not at all. He can use Invert so just queue up Curaga on his target when you see it. He has a trick up his sleeve called Soul Etude which he'll use at critical to fully restore his HP as well as buff up with Hero's March. He will only do this once per fight though. The easiest way to do this is to inflict berserk and blind(as well as slow if you wish). Then Decoy if you want and beat him down. Getting it involves helping Dantro's wife in South Bank village heal a patient. Search an faq for the sidequest. Once you have it you can enter Barhiem from it's other entrance just south east of South Bank Village(South Bank Village south to Banks of the Nebra south east to Murmuring Defile). Inside head north to Great Central Passage and take the NW exit to the East-West Bypass. Head on to The Zeviah Span where you need to find a rail car to interact with to make your way south once you reach a dead-end. Continue on to West Annex. It'll spawn in the middle of the narrow part to the south. These is a save point in the room to the west of West Annex --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 33 Hardest part about this mark is getting to it. The enemies might be a little tough especially if you spawn a bunch on top of yourself. I just fought my way with the help of disable(sledgehammer + Stone Bolts) and silence(Silence shot). May want to search chests on your way through. There is a chance you can get some nice items from some of them. If your lucky that's good and if not don't stress over them. West Annex is packed with skeletons and ghosts so you may just want to book it for the save point in the west room. Then it's a bit quicker to clear a place to fight Bloodwing. Give the old blind and such and this time Disease is actually helpful as it'll prevent him from being able to recover any health with leech. Eerie soundwaves seems to hit everything in attack range. Other than that other enemies in the area is the only thing but if you cleared enough to prevent respawns it won't be an issue. Anyway Braegh relies on indirect attacks to win such as by inflicting Harmful Status and using Invert. According to the Bradygames guide you can reflect Invert and it will work on him. I haven't tried it yet. With decoy on the tank and a couple ranged you can keep most of his AoE attacks centered on him which makes it easier to cure them...but it's not really necessary. You can silence him to prevent much of his attacks. As you might of noticed magick attacks aren't the best to use on him though Sleep does work on him for magician parties. Icebrand will deal a lot of damage and Black bolts and Sledgehammer are great for keeping it Disabled. Just do the old Berserk + Bravery + Haste on whoever has an Icebrand and watch it crumble. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================== Carrot =======================-600Z-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 110842 | 999 | 38 | 26 | 77 | 19 | 81 | 24 | 31 | 0 | 28 | 3960 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Weak | Absorb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Immune | Immune | Yes | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap ??? | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Dark Crystal, Foul Liquid, Putrid Liquid ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. If you keep everyone but the tank near his big mouth you should be fine and only need a quick esuna and possibly haste to fix everything back up. In addition to his breath he has an AoE stop so avoid getting everyone hit with it. He's fairly weak till he hits critical than his attack power shoots through the roof. I'm pretty sure he has adrenaline(Increased strength at critical) in addition to his growing threat. Just have a tank and keep decoy on him. Bubble helps deal with his increased attack power at low health. Don't bother with Status afflictions since he's immune to nearly all and can purge them. Though it can be nice with silence shot to watch him waste time purging it. You have a helper from the clan who can buff everyone with haste, protect, shell and bravery. The hardest part is of course when he hits critical. He'll start one shotting everyone but hopefully he'll stick to putrid breath and the occasional purify. Turn off buffs and healing(except esuna/chrono tears) and just raise. Though he has the old high defense at critical you should just stick to normal attacks since his putrid breath will cause spell delay along with the miss factor but normal attacks can keep going. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================== Roblon =======================-60AA-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 177365 | 999 | 37 | 30 | 65 | 17 | 69 | 27 | 29 | 0 | 26 | 4410 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Absorb | Half | Half | Half | Weak | Half | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Fire Stone, Iron Ore, Fire Crystal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. The problem are the Dead Bones. Unlike some think they don't have an unlimited respawn. There is an overall cap on the amount that can respawn. By killing them until they stop before moving forward you can make it much easier. Be very careful not to aggro too many. The best way to crowd control them is Nihopalaoa + Chrono's tear/Remedy Proceed slowly and try to anticipate respawns. Your goal is to try to clear them enough that they won't respawn in the SE which is where you will be fighting him. Taking on this mark at a low level is all about your ability to deal with the dead bones and prevent them from becoming an issue. Anyway ultimately you want to fight Roblon from the SE corner up where he is. Just have your tank use a ranged attack like 1000 needles as well as everyone else depending on weapons. You'll probably pick up 2 or 3 skeletons. Do your best to crowd control them with Chrono's Tears and then kill them. Roblon actually seems to stay in place so you can pull away out of his range to deal with them if needed. Always eliminate dead bones first Depending on how much clearing of respawns you did you won't get more than maybe one as long as you stay in the corner. I had my tank way in SE corner and the other 2 closer over by the little bridge jutting out to the south to stay out of AoE range. Keep shell up on the tank. If needed you can switch between Ice and Fire shields. Use Decoy if he doesn't like to stay on your tank and no one else but it should get hit with Fear. Should be smooth sailing from there. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================ Darksteel ======================-60AB-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 111331 | 999 | 37 | 24 | 77 | 17 | 59 | 22 | 23 | 0 | 21 | 4080 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Weak | Absorb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap ??? | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Eye drops, Aged Turtle Shell, Ancient Turtle shell ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. You can use fireflys to maintain certain levels. This comes in handy for harder enemies that use level based spells. Anyway a tank is real handy to keep the AoE attacks focused on one person and to block much of it. Employ the standard buffs such as bubble and protect on the tank and whatever you want to use on everyone else between haste, faith, bravery, ect... He uses the restore trick twice. You may be able to get around this by keeping him slept and nuking him. He's very slow even without slow and yeah don't forget those harmful status like blind and such. Bubble + Decoy + Protect + Shell + Whatever on the tank and whatever buffs you want on everyone else. The easiest way is to sleep and oil up the minions and use Firaga to take them out. Sleepga/Oil or Nihopalaoa + remedy/Alarm clock/Hankercheif. Monid seems to stay on Ba'gamnon pretty well. Speaking of him this doesn't work on him since he absorbs fire but once he's alone it's very straightforward. The key to this fight is like with Roblon, crowd control. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================= Goliath =======================-60AG-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 224294 | 999 | 42 | 26 | 72 | 18 | 79 | 23 | 28 | 4 | 27 | 4490 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Absorb | Weak ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap ??? | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Holy magicite, Iron Ore, Holy Crystal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Goliath will start out by using Magick Barrier and then fire spells at his target. Mirror mail/reflect is good to use here or you can equip a Viking Coat/Windbreaker depending on the spell to reduce the damage. When his health gets lower he'll start attacking physically so be sure to have protect up on his target. His physical attacks can cause disable as well. He attacks fairly fast and he ignores evade. His spells hit pretty hard so I equipped a mirror mail till he stopped spamming them and I pretty much didn't have to do anything but attack. Once he stopped I equipped my best armor and kept faith on the healer. Decoy wasn't needed as he stayed on my tank the entire time. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== =============================== Deathscythe =====================-60AH-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 125601 | 999 | 40 | 28 | 72 | 23 | 81 | 28 | 30 | 0 | 27 | 4830 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Weak | Absorb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Yes | Immune | Yes | Yes | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap ??? | Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Book of Orgain-Mille, Book of Orgain, Capricorn gem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. It would be a good idea to clear out a spot first. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 35 Not too terrible. The hardest part about the battle is that he can inflict stop which can get annoying. Since stop removes decoy you may want to just fight him with 3 fighters with heavy armor as he'll tear through anyone with weak armor unless you keep him immoblized. Speaking of which Blind/Slow/Immobilize are all very helpful. He seems to ignore evade. He'll use a paling so you'll have to use magick like Curaga or Bio I actually ended up using two tanks in the end with decoy, bubble, protect, and all that due to the stop thing. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ============================ Gilgamesh Part 1 ===================-60AI-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 123103 | 999 | 42 | 25 | 79 | 21 | 76 | 26 | 30 | 6 | 55 | 4000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap ??? | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Phase 1-3 Potion, gil(100%-60% Health) Phase 4: Genji Shield(40% Health) Phase 5: Genji Gauntlet(20% Health) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Tasche spawn is just west of the gate crystal. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 35 This is more of an introduction to gilgamesh. First his dog. Enkidu actually has quite a bit of attack and can hit everyone with eerie soundwaves. He also has much lower HP so he should be the first target. YOu can inflict him with a variety status which you should especially blind or sleep depending. This includes oil so firage and fire elemental ammo/weapons can do massive damage to it. Enkidu does not seem to ignore evade Gilgamesh pretty much just beats on his target with the occasional combo. He goes through phases every 20% with a little cutscene denoting that you can steal a new item and his attack power will rise slightly by the end. He also rebuffs so you'll have to dispell as well. At the final 20% he uses perfect defense which you'll just have to wait out by waiting for him to use his ultimate illusion attack twice. Ultimate Illusion seems to hit everything in a line in front so put your other 2 behind him. Slow works and you should keep it on him throughout the fight. You may wish to use expose/shear but it goes quick enough. Don't forget to steal if you are after the genji equipment. His attacks can inflict sleep. Ignores evade. The way I did it was have a tank with the usual bubble, protect and decoy as well as faith on the healer. I also kept everyone hasted. Start off by dispeling both of them and blinding, slowing, ect... and finish the dog off quickly. When it's just Gilgamesh it's just a tank and spank fight. Enjoy the show. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ============================ Gilgamesh Part 2 ===================-60AJ-==== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 472346 | 999 | 55 | 44 | 90 | 27 | 119 | 36 | 38 | 10 | 120| 6700 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Silence | Immobilize | Slow | Poison Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap ??? | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Break | Warp | Death | Countdown | Gravity | Disease Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charm | Bonecrusher | Achilles | Numerology | Sight Unseeing ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addle | Shear | Expose | Wither | Syphon ??? | ??? | Yes | ??? | ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steal: Phase 1-3 Potion, gil(100%-60% Health) Phase 4: Genji Helm(40% Health) Phase 5: Genji Armor(20% Health) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Go to Phon Coast and at the Hunter's Camp you can find a fallen Bhujerban in the northwest part. Check the shiny object near him for the key. You can then use the key to open the gate in the SW part of Site 9. In site 11 look for a device to open the gate in NW and then proceed on. In Site 5 head directly east to make it to Site 6 south and then head south to make it to the aptly named Staging Area where you can save. Just south of the save point is Site 7 and Gilgamesh. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 35 Oh dear god just look at those stats and how about those enemies on the way! But hell no we're not gonna back down. Were gonna make gilgamesh our *****, not the other way around. Everything is pretty similiar aside from the bulked up stats with a few exceptions such as gilgamesh is immune to slow this time. The big difference is that Gilgamesh uses level based skills that will inflict status effects. At 35 I'm immune to all 3 of them. I didn't even mean for that either. 35 just happened to be my highest level when I could final buy some fireflys and so I kept everyone there. Also I've been holding back the fomalhaut I found after beating Antlion as well as the Dragon Mail I found on my way to Bloodwing. From now on I'll be using them since it's starting to get to the point where they are just as good as the stuff you can get in stores. Now the setup. Have a tank though it doesn't matter about evade, they are just gonna be the decoy with the best armor and preferably a hat that increases HP. Keep protect, decoy, and bubble(or bubble belt) up at all times. Have a healer with faith active at all times to do a lot of healing (better yet have 2 mage types for it). 3rd doesn't really matter though I would suggest a caster to start and then whatever you want. Be prepared to cure stop as he inflicts it with his attacks. Most people complain about the start where both gilgamesh and enkidu rape face. However if you check out what you can do to his status you can quickly see that you can make him a non-issue. The key is to put him to sleep and oil and then spam firage at him. Before going in I suggest buffing everyone with faith. Just be ready to reapply sleep and keep your tank up(hopefully gilgamesh will spam the lv based skills) and Enkidu will go down in a minute. With just gilgamesh it's down to a tank and spank but of course he's got some high attack power which increases a bit near the end. My tank has about 5250 HP with bubble and he hits for about 1500 with dragon mail. It goes without saying to keep him topped off incase of comboes. Aside from the buffs I already mentioned I kept haste buffed on everyone which can help get heals off in time. I also fully buffed my other tank to swap in if things went sour then I would raise my fallen tank, buff him up and then swap him out so I could repeat as needed. Keep healing gambits at a safe level(ie set them to heal at a higher point, I used <60% though 70% may be better) doesn't hurt to have your tank use X-Potions at low health as well. You may wish to try to use expose to speed it up but it missed a lot for me and I don't know if it resets between HP totals. Try to keep your other 2 behind Gilgamesh after he hits 60% as he'll start using his big attacks like Bitter End which hit everyone in front of him. At 20% things get a bit nuts. It's almost the same thing as carrot only it takes two strikes to kill a person with bubble. If you are as low as I am then don't worry about buffing or healing. Just set everyone to use raise and attack and put in your hardest hitters. If he ever takes out two people back to back by attacking and going right into monarch sword then switch one of the dead out. Once you have the other dead guy raised and he preferably uses a level based move switch back in your other dead to get them raised up. Yeah there is no clean way for me to do this at 35 though at a higher level it would just be a bit harder tank and spank at the end. Congrats! You just beat a powerful enemy many people powerlevel into the 90s to beat! Did you remember to steal your armor? Bwhaha, well I did have fun doing that again! An alternate strategy is to do everything in your power to keep Decoy + Reverse active on a person at all times. You pretty much won't be able to lose if you can do that. Most people consider it to be a cheap strategy though. =============================================================================== *Rest in progress* =================== Thanks and Credits: -700A- =================== -SquareSoft for making a wonderful game -Gamefaqs for hosting this guide and being such a kickass site -Bradygames guide for the enemy stats and elemental defense -Maltzsan (dcl.maltz@gmail.com) for translating info from the ultimania guide in his game mechanics FAQ ...and you, thanks for reading!
