1.
About Houston.pm

2.
Houston.pm is a group of people who use the Perl programming language.
3. Some of us use Perl in our jobs (officially or unofficially), others just
4. like to play with the language.

5.
We have all level of members from complete novices to very experienced
6. Perl programmers working in Perl daily and more than willing to share
7. their expertise.

8.
Our Goals

9.
The Houston branch of the Perl
10. Mongers has several goals. In no particular order, our goals
11. include:

12.

13.
Provide a forum for Perl programmers in the Houston area to share
14. knowledge and expertise.

15.
Provide help and mentoring to local Perl programmers.

16.
Educate individuals and companies about the potential benefits of
17. using the Perl language and modules for solving their problems.

18.
Provide a focus for the Perl community in Houston.

19.
Have fun with Perl.

20.
Meet other Perl users in the Houston area.

21.

22.
Join Us

23.
Unlike many groups, Houston.pm is pretty informal. Feel free to come to
24. meetings to meet us, learn more about Perl, and share your knowledge and
25. experience with Perl.

26.
We have a mailing list. To join, go to the
27. Houston.pm Mailing
28. List page and fill out the form to subscribe.

29.
If mailing lists aren't your thing, we also announce the meetings
30. on the Houston.pm
31. Google+ page.
32.

There is also a Houston.pm Twitter account.
33.

If you feel like contributing, you can volunteer to give a presentation
34. or lead a discussion. Any topic that may be of interest to Perl
35. programmers is welcome. You don't have to be an expert in the topic, we
36. often have presentations just to see other views of a topic.

37.
If you are uncomfortable with public speaking, Houston.pm is a good
38. place to start. The group is friendly and doesn't heckle. Several of our
39. members have also used a technical meeting to practice a talk before
40. presenting it elsewhere. The group has been happy to provide input and
41. suggestions to improve if you ask for it.

42.
Bring your curiosity, questions, problem code, or expertise to share.
